Long-Term Birth Control Program

Eligible people, who are registered patients at Desert Star Family Planning Clinic, and do not have public or private assistance for medications, may apply for the Long-Term Birth Control Program. We offer the Nexplanon Implant and the Liletta IUD.

The Nexplanon Implant is a non daily form of birth control composed of a small thin rod that is inserted under the skin of the upper arm by a skilled provider. It releases a steady daily dose of the contraceptive hormone into the circulation preventing ovulation, or the release of an egg by the ovary, and therefore preventing pregnancy.

The Liletta IUD is a non daily form of birth control composed of a small T-shaped device that is inserted into your uterus by a skilled provider. It releases a steady daily dose of the contraceptive hormone into the uterus causing changes that prevent pregnancy. An additional benefit is a reduced intensity of periods.

When inserted, both options can provide safe, longer-term birth control compared to other methods.
